Sports

St Mary’s Parish School encourages all students to be healthy and active by employing a specialist teacher and offering a variety of sports.

Annual sports carnival are held for swimming, cross country and athletics in which students compete within their sport houses.

Students are also offered the opportunity to represent St Mary’s Parish School at MacIntyre Zone carnivals and trials.

All primary school students are provided formal swimming at the Goondiwindi Regional Council Pool for a six week block during Term 1 and Term 4.

Sports Houses
Students are allocated a house team and are encouraged to develop loyalty to their team. Two students from Year 6 and one student from the Middle School will be appointed as House Captains of these houses each year.

  • McAuley (Green) - Catherine McAuley is the foundress of our Mercy Sisters.

  • Loretto (Blue) - named in honour of the Loretto Sisters, in recognition of their commitment and inspirational service to Catholic Education.

  • Coolock (Gold) - the name of a house where Catherine McAuley lived.

  • MacKillop (Red) - named after Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first Saint.

Historically, if your family has been previously linked with a sporting house, please flag this at the office at time of enrolment so the tradition can continue.
